FREE DENTAL EXAM

Good dental care for pets encompasses so much more than smelly breath. In addition to causing damage inside a pet's mouth, dental disease causes chronic infection and inflammation that can lead to heart, kidney, liver and lung problems.

Here is how:

Once dental disease takes hold in the mouth, the bacteria break down tissues and make pathways to your pet's blood stream.

Thanks to the higway of blood vessels and arteries, these bacteria tour the body looking for a nutrient-rich place to stay.

At times, the bacteria can reproduce every 10-15 minutes.

These bacteria cause body-wide infection that keeps your pet's immune system busy. This can zap your pet's energy and strength, allowing other damage and disease to take hold.

As part of a national event, February is "Dental Health Month". We will participate in this program by offering a special dental package for routine scaling and polishing. This offer is good January 1st to March 1st, 2012. Call for details. As always, we are glad to provide a Free Dental Exam to determine If your pet is at risk.

As a reminder, mosquitoes, fleas and ticks can appear as early as March. Mosquitoes are responsible for the transmission of the deadly heartworm disese. To protect your dog and cat from heartworm disease, we recommend Heartgard Plus...a tasty treat that is given once monthly. Lyme disease is extremly prevalent in Wisconsin. At Delavan Animal Clinic, we diagnose seceral cases each month. Thankfully, most cases of Lyme disease are diagnosed early in the course of the disease. Before symptoms start to occur.

The systoms of Lyme disease include fever, sore joints, heart valve deterioration and kidney failure. A simple ten-minute test for Lyme disease can be done in conjuction with the heartworm test. There are 2 ways to prevent Lyme disease: the new Lyme vaccine is given yearly and provides excellent protection, in addition to Frontline Plus. Frontline Plus is applied topically between your dogs shoulder blades monthly and protects against not only the tick that transmits Lyme disease, but also 3 other ticks and fleas.
